500 Chairs Replaced, Without the Waste

Want to know what we can do for your business space?

Replacing office furniture is often seen as a simple refresh. But when you’re upgrading hundreds of chairs across multiple active floors, the challenge becomes much bigger.

How do you improve comfort and safety for employees without disrupting work, and without creating unnecessary waste?

Recently, our furniture specialists at COS Working Spaces delivered a large-scale ergonomic seating rollout for a major client, installing approximately 500 new ergonomic task chairs, all pre-approved by their OH&S team.

What made this project stand out wasn’t just the scale. It was how seamlessly it was delivered, and what happened after installation.

Delivering Change Without Disruption

With staff working live across multiple floors, the rollout required careful staging, tight coordination, and a clear focus on user experience.

To ensure minimal disruption, every chair was:

  • Delivered fully assembled
  • Placed directly at each workstation
  • Swapped one-for-one with the existing chair

The result was a seamless transition, allowing employees to remain productive while immediately benefiting from improved comfort and support.

Safety and Compliance Built In

Ergonomics isn’t just about comfort; it’s about workplace wellbeing. That’s why every chair was selected and approved in alignment with the client’s OH&S standards, ensuring the rollout supported both compliance and employee care.

Sustainability Outcome That Matters

Large furniture replacements often come with an unspoken consequence: hundreds of unwanted chairs sent straight to landfill.

This project took a different approach.

All removed chairs were assessed by a third-party specialist to ensure responsible end-of-life management.

Viable units were refurbished and qualified for reuse. Unusable components were repurposed for parts, and selected chairs were donated to a not-for-profit organisation.

By extending the lifecycle of existing furniture, the project delivered a practical example of circular economy principles in action, reducing waste while supporting the community.

Workplace Rollouts Done Right

This project is a strong example of what COS Working Spaces delivers best:

  • Large-scale, multi-floor workplace capability
  • Delivery excellence in live operational environments
  • OH&S-aligned ergonomic solutions
  • Practical sustainability with real outcomes

Because creating better workplaces isn’t just about new furniture, it’s about delivering change thoughtfully, safely, and responsibly.

“The rollout was incredibly smooth, and our teams were able to continue working as normal throughout the installation. We also really valued the sustainability approach. Knowing the removed chairs were refurbished, reused or donated rather than sent to landfill was an important part of the project for us.”
